IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change impacts are seen throughout every aspect of the world we live in. The impacts of climate change on different sectors of society are interrelated. Drought can harm food production and human health. Flooding can lead to disease spread and damages to ecosystems and infrastructure. Human health issues can increase mortality, impact food availability, and limit worker productivity.

The College of Climate Change

The international community recognise the importance of education and training to address climate change. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement call on States and other actors to educate, empower and engage all stakeholders and major groups on policies and actions relating to climate change.

Global Commitment to Climate Change Education

The College of Climate Change is founded on a vision and passion to provide high-quality education in climate change, in line with our global commitments. We offer a comprehensive range of accredited and non-accredited qualifications to domestic and international students.

GLOBAL TEMPERATURE RISE

Global surface temperature was 1.09 [0.95 to 1.20]°C higher in 2011–2020 than 1850–1900, with larger increases over land (1.59 [1.34 to 1.83]°C) than over the ocean (0.88 [0.68 to 1.01]°C). Global surface temperature in the first two decades of the 21st century (2001–2020) was 0.99 [0.84 to 1.10]°C higher than 1850–1900

INCREASE IN GHG EMISSIONS

Global net anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have been estimated to be 59 ± 6.6 GtCO2-eq in 2019, about 12% (6.5 GtCO2-eq) higher than in 2010 and 54% (21 GtCO2-eq) higher than in 1990, with the largest share and growth in gross GHG emissions occurring in CO2 from fossil fuels combustion and industrial processes (CO2-FFI)

SEA LEVEL RISE

Human influence is very likely the main driver of sea level rise. The average rate of sea level rise was 1.3 [0.6 to 2.1] mm yr-1 between 1901 and 1971, increasing to 1.9 [0.8 to 2.9] mm yr-1 between 1971 and 2006, and further increasing to 3.7 [3.2 to 4.2] mm yr-1 between 2006 and 2018

VULNERABLE POPULATION

Approximately 3.3 to 3.6 billion people live in contexts that are highly vulnerable to climate change. Human and ecosystem vulnerability are interdependent. Regions and people with considerable development constraints have high vulnerability to climatic hazards. Increasing weather and climate extreme events have exposed billions of people to acute insecurities

ECOSYSTEM LOSS

Climate change has caused substantial damages, and increasingly irreversible losses, in terrestrial, freshwater, cryospheric, coastal and open ocean ecosystems. Hundreds of local losses of species have been driven by increases in the magnitude of heat extremes with mass mortality events recorded on land and in the ocean

CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION

It is time to elevate climate action through quality education. Since the College of Climate Change was founded in 2013, it has been committed to its core values of impact, excellence, integrity and inclusivity in providing world class education on climate change and environmental leadership
